While the world patiently awaits the release of the first Windows Mobile 6.5 device, it seems like the devs behind the software are warming to the fact that folks love those touchscreens. While existing versions of WinMo — not to mention early builds of WinMo 6.5 –have focused on switching between screens via clickable tabs, a new ROM pictured over at PPCGeeks shows a subtle but significant change. If you’ll notice, the screen on the right would prefer that you swipe left or right to get from ‘Version’ to ‘Copyrights’ or ‘Device ID,’ which should absolutely delight fans of the OS who also prefer touchscreen-based phones. Now, if only we could get Microsoft to push this stuff out onto a shipping handset , we’d really have a reason to cheer. Heads up, Meizu fanboys! We just got a sneak peak at the M8’s new UI (said to be dropping in August when the handset gets its firmware update) and you know what? It looks like a UI. Pretty k-rad, right? Check out the other two face-melting pics after the break, if you dare. Oh sure, we’ve seen countless drum machine hacks over the years, but there’s just something special about one that’s so simple, yet so fulfilling. D-Touch is hailed as a visual markers recognition system “that enables the development of low-cost tangible user interfaces and mixed reality applications,” and here, we’re seeing it used to create movable sounds. Users simply print out the cubes, fold ‘em up, add lentils and arrange them on the highly sophisticated A4 sheet of paper. We get the feeling this one won’t cost you much to replicate, so why not hit the read link for more instructions after digging into the vid just beyond the break?
This one’s for all of you Meizu fanboys out there: To tide you over while you wait for the M8 3G launch in March 2010 (with a possible M8 3G S planned for Smarch 2043 or thereabouts) the company’s announced that the handset will be getting a UI refresh with its firmware 1.0 release come August. Keep in mind that the above image only shows the flowchart that the kids at the eico design lab are using to concoct all their fantastic new transitions and animations, and not the interface itself. And if that isn’t enough to keep you entertained this fine morning, it looks like Meizu has put together a team “with the sole purpose of investigating the Android platform.” Whether or not this “investigation” will amount to anything remains to be seen, and it doesn’t look like the company has any serious intentions for this device beyond the domestic Chinese market, but who knows? Maybe there is a Meizu handset with the open source OS in your (distant) future. Stranger things have happened. Apple’s been saying all along that Snow Leopard would be more about under-the-hood performance and stability enhancements than huge feature changes, so take this with a grain of salt, but AppleInsider claims that a forthcoming 10.6 developer beta could potentially feature a new UI codnamed “marble.” The new appearance is said to be darker and sleeker than the current Unified / Aqua look, and speculation is rampant that the new scrollbars in the current versions of iTunes and iPhoto offer a peek into the future, along with the well-circulated mockup of the new QuickTime X player seen above. We’ll see if Apple breaks with its plan to focus solely on the internals soon enough — but for right now, we’re wondering what your biggest gripes with the current OS X interface are, because we certainly know ours. What do you want fixed? Sound off! Filed under: Desktops , Laptops Snow Leopard soon to sport new a “marble” look? originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 20:47:00 EST. There are a lot of very good reasons why Apple doesn’t let you to skin the iPhone’s UI (just glance at most BlackBerry or WinMo themes). But then there’s this awesome retro Megaman theme. It’s like an 8-bit Capcom fanboy wet dream that’s congealed into a custom iPhone theme. Sure, like most of the apps populating that App Store, the vast majority of themes would probably terrorize your eyeballs in ways that would make Gitmo detainees cry. But! A few gems, like this one, would undoubtedly peek out of the mountain of shit. Apple’s attempt to protect you be damned, if you want it really bad, here’s how to jailbreak your iPhone so you can put this (or whatever other unseemly graphical user interfaces you want) on your phone
The latest features in the new iPhone OS 3.0 make it a better phone, GPS, gaming and computing platforms. But they also have the potential to turn it into the most perfect sex toy yet. Dr. Debby Herbenick— author and sex expert —liked our iPhone 3.0 guide so much that she wrote a great phone sex guide inspired by it. Which got me thinking: Can the new OS make the iPhone the best sexual toy ever? Actually, I think it can.
We’re here! Apple’s about to unveil the iPhone 3.0 OS, and Brian Lam and I are going to be covering it live . LIVE. And don’t forget to play pizza bingo while you follow the keynote . We’ve already seen a copious amount of iStation T3 still shots, but there’s just something about a walk-through on video that really does it for us. Unfortunately, the user who hosted these up made no bones about the functionality, as he straight up admitted that the user interface “blows.” Ouch. Decide for yourself in the vid just past the break. Did you know Microsoft trimmed down sound files so your computer can boot up faster in the Windows 7 release candidate? Here are a few changes we found amongst the over 70+ obvious UI changes.
