Microsoft opens PC lounge in Saks Fifth Avenue for holiday season

We all know Microsoft’s feeling pretty smug — and with good reason — about Windows 7 right now. In an effort to drum up yet more hype for its latest OS, and perhaps to try and gauge customer interest in an East coast Store , Microsoft has decided to open up a cozy “PC lounge” inside Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship New York store — you know, the one that actually is on Fifth Avenue. As part of the agreement, Windows 7 will be used to drive Saks’ window displays, and opportunities will be provided for customers to interact with the new software throughout the building. The lounge itself will be populated by Windows 7 laptops and Microsoft experts , who’ll probably answer your questions in the sort of overly peppy, commercial way that makes us wonder why anyone goes to offline shops in the first place. Black Friday Anti-Deals: What Not To Buy [Prof. Dealzmodo]

Black Friday may when prices are low, but if you’ve carefully read the list of deals , you can tell it’s also a BS marketing gimmick. Here’s how not to get fooled (plus, what gadgets to avoid at any price): In other words, many of these “deals” really aren’t deals at all. Often, Black Friday sale products are priced differently between stores, or they are priced at or above deals you can find elsewhere any day of the week. You might see a particularly juicy deal in a flyer on a big ticket item like an HDTV, only to discover that the store only had a few units to sell. The bottom line is that you need to do your homework, and this is a good place to start.

Black Friday deals roundup: Walmart, Target and NewEgg

We suspect this will be the final round of Black Friday ad leaks — you know, considering that Black Friday is but a few days away — but it seems as if the gadget world has saved the best (or at least the biggest) for last. As usual, we’re not spotting any major steals that’d be worth lining up a dozen hours in advance for, but the $78 Blu-ray player and $10 BD films from Wally World may be worth paying your neighbor to snag for you. Check ‘em all out below… if you dare. Black Friday deals roundup: Walmart, Target and NewEgg originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 22 Nov 2009 18:13:00 EST
