An Interesting Product Would Probably Work [Pr]

I bet the Walkman would have trended, if Twitter was around then. I bet even Betamax would have burbled to the surface. Hell, I bet the first Walkman phone would have trended, back in 2005. So just do… anything . [ SonyEricssonNA ]

HP refreshes ProBook and EliteBook lines with Core i7 processors and just about everything else

HP has six new professional laptop models in the mix, with Core i7 processor options across the board and plenty of other high-end accouterments. The ProBook models, the 6440b (14-inch) and 6540b (15.6-inch), have a starting price of $949, while the gunmetal aluminum-clad EliteBook 8440w and 8540w start at $1,299 and $1,499, respectively. Finally the more traditional platinum aluminum 8440p and 8540p start at $1,099 and $1,249. The differences between the six models might seem minimal to the untrained eye, but high marks like the spill-resistant drains in the EliteBook models, 24 hour battery option on the 8440p / 8540p might help make sense of the endless configurations that will be available among these models. Everything should hit virtual shelves in February, and there’s PR after the break. Samsung NX10 made official — APS-C sensor and AMOLED screen crammed into hybrid DSLR body

Samsung has just announced its NX10 “hybrid DSLR,” which aims to give you all the uncompromising image quality of a full digital SLR within a somewhat more pocketable body. A 14.6 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor is a good start on that road, while “fast and decisive” contrast AF and a snazzy 3-inch AMOLED display keep the momentum going. There’s 720p H.264-encoded video recording as well, but naturally you do have to make some tradeoffs for the reduced size. The mirror box is gone — leaving you with only an electronic viewfinder — and the brand new NX lens mounting system means you’ll have to purchase your favorite lenses all over again.

Panasonic Bragging About Being #1 in Cordless Phones Is Kind of a Bummer [Sad Things]

How Motorola’s Clumsy Keynote Hurt the Cliq [Motorola]

Everyone’s been waiting for the Cliq , Motorola’s desperate-but-anticipated dive into Androidery, and we were ready to be excited about it. Problem is, you wouldn’t have known from the launch, which was somewhat mishandled. As far as fumbles go, confusing people about your new products name ranks pretty high, and that’s exactly what they did— we were there , and at first we thought the phone was called the Blur, then the Click, then the Cliq, as did pretty much the entire internet. Exhibit A, above. Lance Ulanoff at PCMag took particular offense to the whole show, and went so far as to pen a takedown piece on the entire event: The keynote did convey Motorola’s sense of urgency. In fact, the whole event felt rushed

Psystar Sobers Up, Lawyers Up, Prepares to Die Go to Court [Psystar]

Oh, thank god , we almost went a whole month without hearing from everyone’s favorite EULA-flaunters: Psystar is back, again, and ready to fight, again, except this time with real-sounding lawyers, and without the outward appearance of insanity. You’d be forgiven for thinking Psystar had fallen off some kind of wagon a few weeks ago, when they somehow emerged from ( possibly strategic ) bankruptcy only to immediately release another hackintosh product, just like the ones that landed them in their predicament in the first place . Their move was bold; their post-bankruptcy statements, hilariously brash . Now the Psystar PR team, such as they are, is back at it, and they’re rallying the troops—this time, with a softer, more nuanced, but possibly still totally wrong message: Apple’s copyright on OS X doesn’t give Apple the right to tell people what they can do with it after they buy a copy. Apple can’t tell an applications developer that it can’t make a piece of Mac-compatible software. They can’t forbid Mac users from writing blogs critical of Apple

Man, Don’t Choices Suck? [Sony Ericsson]

Sony Ericsson ’s official Twitter account asks the critical question of our age, “Mobile Apps: too many choices?” The answer choices are, um, interesting. The small irony here is that Sony Ericsson makes Windows Mobile phones, whose credo is that it’s all about choice . But what are you waiting for, take the poll! I, for one, think there are too many damn Twitter apps—Apple really should just block every Twitter app submitted after today. I hope Microsoft takes a hard line as well with its app store, I really wouldn’t want there to be too many choices. [ Twitter , Twtpoll ]

Palm Tattles on Apple For Bad USB Etiquette (And They Would Know) [Palm Pre]

Did you hear about that Palm Pre update yesterday? The one that re-enables iTunes syncing ? Yes, probably, but Palm would still very much like to emphasize to you, and now the USB Implementers Forum, that it’s fighting the good fight. Following their endearingly blustery update announcement, a Palm spokesperson explained that the company will take this fight, possibly the greatest battle of our generation, to the ends of the earth.
