This is an unexpected treat: Windows Phone 7 ’s SDK came out today , and apparently it includes DivX support up through DivX6. That means no DivX7, but it’s still a lot more than you can find on the iPhone. More
It’s not much more than a hard drive with HD media playback abilities, but the Packard Bell Studio ST certainly looks nice, doesn’t it? It’s Europe-only for now, but we’re hoping parent company Acer brings over a US-branded version of this box, which holds up to a 2TB hard drive and can do 1080p out over HDMI with Dolby Digital. Codec support is described as “all main formats,” which is a little shady, but we’ll be forgiving if it’s cheaper than the Western Digital WD TV Live HD . Gizmodo Poland launched today. The guy in charge is Rafal Tomanski, who was a finalist on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Poland, and walked away with the 500k prize after not wanting to risk it all on a single question. He speaks 8 languages and has degrees in Japanese cinema and international relations and has been a freelance writer for a long time. He’s kind of a genius and I’m glad he’s representing us in Poland. [ Gizmodo.pl ]

Though that division name tells me they’re already kind of fucked. [ MediaMemo ]

This is what digital books from Penguin—one the mega-publishers—will be like on the iPad. Children’s books that are games, interactive anatomy books, and an augmented reality intergalactic GPS system. This is the future we’ve been waiting to see. The excitement over the iPad?
It’s maybe not the most surprising news, given the Wall Street Journal ’s longtime web leadership, but Rupert Murdoch has officially confirmed that the WSJ will indeed appear on the iPad. But Rupert, what can you tell us about it? Well… nothing, apparently. It’s “under padlock and key,” apparently, which could just mean they haven’t quite figured out the best model for tablet distribution.
In today’s Remainders: wishful thinking. Nikon fans hope they’ve stumbled on a viral campaign for new cameras; magazine companies hope their slick new ads will keep you buying magazines; Google CEO Eric Schmidt gets pranked in 1986, and more. Follow the Signs Camera geeks are getting excited over some mysterious cards that have been showing up in their mailboxes. First I’ll explain what’s on the cards and then I’ll explain what people are surmising, just because it’ll be funnier that way.
