LG GC990 Louvre Cameraphone Shoots 12MP Photos, 720p Video [Cellphones]

The sliding point where cameraphones and point-and-shoot cameras seems to keep moving towards the latter. The latest hybrid is the 720p, 12-megapixel LG GC990 Louvre , which, at least from the back, actually looks like a camera. We can get nervous about the potential quality of such high-res photos and video coming from such a small sensor all we want, but on paper, the GC990 does well: the camera shoots through a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, gets lighting help from a Xenon flash module, and shoots up to ISO 3200, though I can’t imagine the noise levels being anywhere near tolerable. As for the phone side of this brick, we’ve got a 3.2-inch touchscreen showing LG’s interesting S-class 3D UI .

We’re actually surprised we didn’t make the connection earlier, but word on the street today is the the rumored Samsung Omnia Pro will actually be a renamed Louvre B7610 , a set’s which been popping up a lot lately. Makes sense — the Louvre’s 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, 800MHz processor, and 5.1 megapixel camera match up nicely with the Omnia line. It’s running Windows Mobile 6.1 right now, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if the rumored August release date is held back to September or October to coincide with WinMo 6.5. BGR is reporting today that the well-known AMOLED-equipped Samsung Omnia Pro might be linked to the recently unearthed “Louvre B7610.” By the way, “linked” in this case means “the exact same thing.” Why the subterfuge? No idea, but what today’s news does bring us are a slew of updated specs for the Omnia Pro /Louvre, due out sometime in September or October. * 3.5-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen display w/ WVGA resolution * 800MHz processor * 5.1 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash * Sliding QWERTY keypad * 2 UIs (Pro & Media) * TV-OUT * 3.5mm headphone jack * MicroUSB * Divx/WMV/H.264 accelerations * GPS/WIFI/HSDPA/HSUPA/Bluetooth * FM Radio * DNLA support * 1GB internal memory with microSDHC up to 32GB * 1500mAh battery Louvre?
