Keep Your Guitar In Tune With LEDs [Vibrations]

If you’re looking for an edgier way to tune your axe—one that uses your sense of sight rather than that of sound—look no further than the Stimmmopped, a device that uses LEDs to keep your licks sounding sweet. The Stimmmopped, which might be more fun to say than it is to use, bombards your guitar’s strings, one at a time, with two LEDs. The lights flash at the exact frequency at which the string should be vibrating, so if it’s tuned too flat or too sharp the LEDs will appear to move. When the string’s tuned correctly, the lights will look like they’re perfectly still. This is, of course, how all the rowdiest rock stars keep their guitars tuned just right

Ma’am, Your IKEA Graphene Glow Wall Is Ready for Pick-Up [Graphene]

It appears to be graphene day. First, IBM was using the material to shame silicon into submission , and now Swedish scientists say graphene could one day make lamps and other traditional lighting elements unnecessary. If the Swedes are right, then future homes and buildings could be adorned with graphene panels, called light emitting electromechanical cells (LECs, for short). The LEC panels can be fashioned so they cover an entire ceiling, wall, or whatever, and they’re completely adjustable. Dim your walls and ceiling for a romantic evening with the female characters of Mass Effect 2 , for example

Eco shocker: Turbine Light concept uses wind to light highways

Ingenious, eco-friendly concepts are all around us, there’s no denying that. This one caught our eye because it’s pretty innovative, seemingly well thought out, and good looking to boot. The Turbine Light concept (which is going to be a part of the upcoming Greener Gadgets conference in New York City at the end of this month) harnesses the power of the wind from cars rushing past to light up the ever-darkening roadways. The turbines use the wind collected to generate energy for the lighting, and while the concept lacks a lot of firm details so far, but we’re sure to find out more about it soon — we’ll be sure to check them out at the conference on February 25th. Hit the source link to see more concepts, along with other people and companies who will be there.

These LED Lights Are Made for Squeezing and Snuggling [Design]

I never thought I’d call LED lights cute, delightful, or cuddly. But these are. Designed by Diana Lin , the d-light Bubbles are made for squeezing—just don’t be startled by the squeaky wooshhh sound when you fondle the silicone. The lights are available now for $140. I can’t tell you whether that’s a good deal though, because I haven’t been keeping up on the street price for gropes, but let’s just agree that these are rather neat LED lights. [ Yanko Design ]

Thought-Controlled Computing Will Light Up Vancouver Olympics [Thought Control]

Figure skating? Please. The main attraction for many visitors to the Winter Olympics will be an installation letting them control the lights at Niagara Falls with their minds. That’s right: we’re all telekinetics now. Of course, anything seemingly this amazing requires some hedging. The Bright Ideas installation by Toronto-based company InteraXon doesn’t let you decide what color the lights should be or how brightly they should shine, and it can’t tell if you’re specific thought is, say, “Lights, I command thee!” Instead: The headset used in this installation measures the brain’s electrical output and reacts to alpha waves, associated with relaxation, and beta waves, associated with concentration.
