We’ve seen blow-hard electronic music makers in the past (one particular didgeridoo hack comes to mind) but still, when one makes us take note we feel like we just have to pass it along. Onyx Ashanti is an American living in Berlin and a one-man band to boot. His instrument of choice is a Yamaha MIDI wind controller for triggering audio and the TouchOSC app for iPod touch for controlling PureData audio processing. And the music he makes from the two is pretty, pretty wild… see for yourself after the break.
It used to be that jailbreaking your iPhone was a long, involved process , but worth it for the freedom . We’ve reached a new age, though, where emancipating your phone is as simple as plugging in an iDongle. Liberty! More
If you needed any more proof that Apple’s lame cat-and-mouse game with the iPhone jailbreak community has only served to increase its resourcefulness and creativity, look no further than the iDongle, a slick piece of hacker-made hardware that can jailbreak and activate an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch running OS 3.1.2 just by plugging it into the dock connector. What’s more, it allows a jailbroken iPhone to be rebooted away from a computer, which is currently a problem for on-the-go hackers — just stick this guy in your bag and you’ll be good to go. There’s only a dozen prototypes right now, but pre-orders are being accepted to raise funds for production — we’ve got a feeling quite a few people are going to be interested. Video after the break. Comcast is fairly evil, to be sure. But if they’re doing one thing right, it’s the latest version of their free iPhone app, Comcast Mobile App 2.0 . In this walkthrough, you’ll see that not only can you set recordings from your iPhone, but you can do so over the multiple DVRs that you may have in your house. (Note: so far, this function is only available in select areas.) Meanwhile, everyone receives new push notifications reminding you to watch or record your favorite shows…which admittedly sounds a bit useless in the DVR era.
This is so brilliant, and so very wrong. Some poor soul in Baltimore has lost her iPod Touch , offering a $50 reward for its return. And some Bad Samaritan knows a bidding opportunity when he sees one. Of course, the $148 estimate is just for an 8GB Touch. When you get into 64GB territory, you’re looking at a grand savings of $348! I don’t know exactly where these signs are posted, but that’s probably for the best—it’d take no time at all to whip up my generous offer of $51.01
All these wonderful things we’re learning today, from data! First, we find out that Android is a guy thing . Now, we discover that the iPod Touch shares more demographics with glittering vampires than smartphones. iPod Touch: Kid stuff. The age distribution makes a lot of sense, especially with the direct available comparison of the iPhone: the iPod Touch is a good gift, a plausible purchase, and a good investment for a young person right now. An iPhone with a $70-a-month minimum contract is a tougher sell, either to parents, or to kids mostly supported by their parents. And these kids don’t just buy different gadgets than adults—they use them differently, too

While Final Fantasy II contains the five bonus dungeons added with the Soul of Rebirth and Arcane Labyrinth pack. [ Kotaku ]
The iPhone 3.2 Beta 3 SDK documentation confirmed that developing OpenGL ES on the iPad is the same as developing OpenGL ES on other iPhone devices, using the “same basic capabilities as other SGX devices.” We’ve been saying that the iPad was going to use the same basic chip , a PowerVR SGX, for a while now , both for compatibility reasons and because it really is just a big iPod Touch . But, to be fair, the chip is going to be newer than the ones found in those other devices, so it’ll be faster. Most likely. [ Macrumors ]
Apple has banned sexy apps . But apps from Playboy and Sports Illustrated remain. Why does Apple care what turns me on? If you need another example of why the iTunes App Store ’s walled garden is flawed, Apple has been only too happy to oblige, capriciously and arbitrarily removing an unknown number of “sexy” apps without warning. All that’s missing to complete the metaphor is a flaming sword. Some of those apps were certainly garbage, but it seems most were simply slideshows of women in various states of undress
Crestron is one of the biggest names behind home automation . They’ve already released an iPhone app , allowing you to control your “AV systems, lighting, shades, room temperatures and more” from your phone. Now that app is coming to the iPad. Just like with the iPhone version, iPad users will be able to interact with their Crestron systems over Wi-Fi, 3G and Edge. Here’s what the interface loos like on the iPhone (the iPad version should be identical).
