Allow me to introduce the Hi-Pod phone . It comes with a one-inch LCD display, FM radio support, and an imitation iPod clickwheel stuck onto a hideously clunky chunk of plastic. It’s $85 and doesn’t work in the US or Canada. If for whatever reason this piece of junk appeals to you, you can order it straight from China Grabber’s vaguely shady-looking website, but I would suggest that you use the money to get your head examined instead.
With a name like HiPhone, it has to be good, right? Totally . The outfit famous for knocking off RIM’s BlackBerry Storm in impressive fashion is back, this time with a psychedelic mishmash that could make even the most hardened soul chuckle once or twice. The F320 is — as you can so clearly see above — a terribly funny combination of iPod nano and rotary phone, and while we wouldn’t trust the specifications for a minute, we’re told that it’s a dual-band GSM handset with a built-in multimedia player, FM tuner, camera, 2.6-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth. There’s no mention of a price (unless you’re willing to commit to buying a few hundred), but trust us, it’s better that way. Leaked photos of a Verizon-branded Glyde 2 (aka U960) smartphone show it has a streamlined design, a fourth row added to the keyboard, and now uses Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. It all sounds promising, but what about that sluggish touchscreen? When our very own Matt Buchanan conducted last year’s iPhone Clone Battlemodo , his verdict on the first generation Glyde was as succinct as it was scathing: “The Glyde is just a truly terrible phone. Most clay bricks are more responsive than its touchscreen, especially around the edges, and the crappy, sluggish Verizon software doesn’t help.
Despite years of unfulfilled hype about the M8 iPhone clone , it appears that Meizu’s CEO Jack Wong is talking about a new installment that may or may not include 3G, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera. Given their history, you probably have as much of a chance of getting your hands on the proposed Meizu phone as you do seeing Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster make out in a UFO. Prove me wrong Jack, prove me wrong. [ Meizu Forum via The Gadget Site ]
It’s been a while since we’ve heard more about the iPhone Nano , and even though it’s hasn’t shown its face yet it already has its own clone: The HiPhone Nano . From the same people who brought you the Chinese iPhone-wannabe, the HiPhone , the HiPhone Nano is currently being sold in China for $125, which is an immediate discount from its $400 price tag. However, calling it a clone would be a misnomer as it doesn’t use the same user interface as the OS. With a 2.4-inch screen, the Tri-band HiPhone Nano supports dual-SIM cards, has a camera and bluetooth, and is apparently also a flip phone. Really, a flip phone
This video of Lenovo’s Android-powered OPhone makes me hungry for Android’s Cupcake and what it could possibly do. If this is the future of Android, I’m upgrading. It has apps that you would (hopefully) expect from an Android smartphone, such as weather, calendar and it even has push notification. Changing panels seems to be a visual feast with its cube-like interface. There’s also on-screen widgets.
