Wal-Mart often finds itself on these pages not only for its deals but for the fair amount of comedy its stores provide us, but this next item could be big. According to The New York Times , the company has indeed agreed to purchase Vudu — giving it a leg up on digital distribution and helping to brace against a declining market for DVDs. Details are scarce, but apparently the two companies have been informing Hollywood studios and TV manufacturers about the plan all day — so an official announcement can’t be too far off. TomTom has done a respectable job of keeping its iPhone GPS app up to date when compared to formidable options from Navigon and the like, but today it’s making its biggest move yet by way of a significant price drop. We’ve heard directly from the company (and confirmed with our own two peepers) that the US and Canada version of the app is now on sale for $69.99, while a US-only version is currently on sale for just $49.99. If you’ll recall, the former was just selling for $99.99 a few days ago, so if you’re planning on making that fateful trip to grandmother’s house again this year, you might want a robotic gal leading the way. Some might say that Microsoft just can’t catch a break. Others might argue that it’s getting exactly what it deserves. Whatever your take on the situation , it seems as if Microsoft may finally have the EU off of its monstrous back (at least momentarily ), as a report has surfaced noting that said software giant is nearing approval for a new browser ballot screen demanded by the European Commission. As you well know by know, rivals Mozilla, Opera and Google all submitted change requests to EU regulators in hopes of having browser selection boxes randomized and not displayed within Internet Explorer. Purportedly, the all-clear will come down on December 15th (or earlier), and the antitrust case will be settled as Windows customers have a clearer choice when it comes to selecting a go-to browser from day one

From everything we can tell, this new Droid Eris deal has nothing to do with the day after Thanksgiving and everything to do with the pure insanity of Walmart Wireless / LetsTalk.com. The same people that brought us the $30 Pixi have slashed the $99 Eris down to $30, which does wonders for removing the Eris from regular Droid comparisons. Judged purely on its own merits, $30 is a pretty smashing price for this handset, but in two years when that hefty Verizon contract is up it’s probably going to seem even more outdated by new versions of Android and faster processors than it does now. There wasn’t exactly much secrecy left around this one after ads started popping up online, but Walmart’s now set aside any doubt about its $300 HP G60-519WM laptop with a listing for it on its website, which also thankfully includes the complete specs for it. Apparently built exclusively for Walmart by HP, this particular model packs a 15.6-inch WXGA display, along with previously rumored specs including a 2.2GHz Celeron 900 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a LightScribe DVD burner, and some basic Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics — not to mention Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit edition for an OS. Not exactly the worst deal for someone looking for bigger, more full-featured alternative to a netbook, to be sure, but we have a feeling this is just a taste of what’s to come for bargain hunters on Black Friday .
